e-Learning through FarNet
Taipa Area School is a member school of FarNet and is
offering motivated students an opportunity to pursue their
courses of study through e-learning. You may apply to be
enrolled in an e-learning course if the course you wish to
study is:
·
not currently offered at Taipa Area School
·
clashes with another timetabled class
·
offered through a tertiary organisation
Students who apply must have a satisfactory record of
attendance, meet the entry requirements and have
demonstrated very good self management skills.

Internet use:
Taipa Area School has a fully operational
Intranet where students can access locally developed
resources as well as the world wide web. The school Intranet is password protected.
School access to the internet is filtered through "School
Zone"
This is available once the students and their parents
have signed an agreement of understanding.
A copy of this agreement is available
(29kb)
Some students have limited access to the internet. The sites
(URLs) that they have access to have been previewed by their
teacher and then made available by our network administrator.
This process takes about a day and, although it makes the net
limited as a resource, it increases the safety within the school
environment and encourages the planned use of the net in the
classroom.
Our aim with both the intranet and the internet is to support
learning and teaching. As a consequence of experience, we do not
provide access to e-mail for students at school. However,
international students and some students in leadership positions
may be an exception to this.
In 2006 Taipa Area School became involved in developing it's
ability to be involved in video conferencing. Initially this
has included other schools in our region (Far North) |
